Supply Chain 360: The Confidence Gap Between Employers and Candidates

21.03.2025

Our latest Supply Chain 360 poll revealed a noticeable difference between how confident candidates feel about their job prospects and how hiring managers perceive them.

When we asked Supply Chain, Planning, and Procurement professionals how confident they were in finding a role that meets their expectations, the responses were:

  • 53% felt somewhat or extremely confident
  • 32% were neutral
  • Only 11% felt somewhat unconfident, and 0% said extremely unconfident

However, when we posed a similar question to employers and hiring managers, the picture looked very different:

  • Just 22% thought candidates were somewhat or extremely confident
  • 25% were neutral
  • 53% believed candidates felt somewhat or extremely unconfident

This raises important questions:

Are hiring managers underestimating candidate confidence? Are candidates more optimistic than the job market suggests? Could this gap impact hiring strategies, salary expectations, or candidate engagement?

What This Means for Employers

  • Be aware of the confidence gap. If candidates feel more optimistic than you expect, they may be less inclined to settle, or quicker to move on if they don’t see the right opportunities.
  • Reassess your hiring messages. Are you addressing what candidates value most in a new role?
  • Stay competitive. If candidates believe opportunities are plentiful, they may be more selective in their job search.

At Escape Recruitment, we keep our finger on the pulse of market trends to help both employers and job seekers make informed decisions.
